This is the first Blog from Rainbow Basin Farms Goat Farms, located in Northeast, Missouri. We are so excited, we have our goats and our website, www.rainbowbasin.com. We are still working on the site, so if you choose to visit us you won't see much.
Our dairy goat family consists of two Alpine-Toggenburg cross kids. One registered Alpine yearling and a two year old registered Oberhasli dairy goat. The kids are Mythreindeer and Legend. Mythreindeer is a wether (a castrated male) who we are attempting to train to be a pack goat. Legend is a girl that we hope to breed in a year and then milk. The Alpine goat yearling is named Wisdom. Wisdom is a sungau ( black coloring in a goat). When we bought her we were hoping that she was pregnant and that we could milk her later this summer. Wisdom has not kidded, but we still have our fingers crossed on the dairy farm that she will give birth to a kid goat this week. The Oberhasli dairy goat is named Velvet. Our dairy farm bought her two weeks ago. We have been milking Velvet each day and drinking the milk. Goat milk is delicious and healthful.
In future postings we hope to have more news about our goats in information about bottle feeding and milking.
